KUCHING: Social Development Minister Tan Sri William Mawan has pledged a government grant of RM50,000 for the longhouse rebuilding fund of Rumah Rachak village security and development committee (JKKK).

The presentation was held recently during the Pakan Festival at the longhouse in Nyalak Ladong Pakan, which saw some 500 people attending, among them political secretary to the chief minister Peter Howell Jilan, Pakan District Officer Alex Liau and Bintangor district secretary Adrian Luang.


Mawan, also Pakan assemblyman and Saratok MP, said the annual 10-day festival would end on Aug 29.

On the following night, Mawan was at Pakan town to officiate at a karaoke singing competition and later gave away prizes to the winners.

Mawan called people to come in droves to the closing of the festival.

Yesterday, the minister proceeded to Marudi to officiate at the closing of Baram Regatta.
