MIRI: The third ‘Kembara Ilmu’ programme held recently at Kampung Kuala Sibuti received an encouraging response from participants and co-organisers.
The informative roadshow, which reached out to the community with knowledge and information-related activities was organised by Pustaka Negeri Sarawak Miri together with seven other organisations from Oct 3 to 4.
They were Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Danawa Resources Sdn Bhd, Services Modernisation Unit (UPPN) of the Chief Minister’s Department, Miri Local Agenda 21, Sarawak Rivers Board, Natural Resources and Environment Board and Malaysian Nature Society (Miri Chapter).
According to the library’s public relations officer Sofina Tan, the programme involved over 70 villagers.
Fifty pupils from SK Kuala Sibuti and SK Beliau Isa also participated in activities organised just for them.
“Our main purpose is to reach out to the rural and suburban community with knowledge-sharing and lifelong learning activities.
“Participants were given the opportunity to learn basic skills in information and communication technology (ICT) as the organisers taught them basic computer skills and how to communicate via social networks,” she said.
Tan added there were classes on government online services, environment and river safety talks, workshops on making soap from used cooking oil as well as composting and children activities with Noriko Chubachi — a volunteer from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The annual programme was the third organised since 2013, with the last two programmes benefiting residents of Long Laput and Long Bedian.
