SRI AMAN: The state government has approved an allocation of RM2 million for the construction of Lingga Mini Waterfront and Lingga Jetty this year.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem said the government decided to approve the project because Lingga required a mini waterfront to organise its annual Lingga Festival.
“The government is very concerned with the infrastructure development of Lingga town and therefore agreed to approve the allocation for development.
“In addition to this, the projects once completed will benefit the people of Lingga each time they hold their annual Lingga Festival,” he said when officiating at the Lingga state constituency Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri celebration at the Civic Centre here yesterday.
Apart from that, Adenan said the government had also approved another RM2 million to construct a new mosque in Maludam, Betong this year.
“This is to accommodate the Muslims in Maludam as the current mosque is not big enough for them to hold Friday prayers as well as to fulfil their ‘solat Aidilfitri’ every Hari Raya.
“This is my gift to the people of Lingga constituency in conjunction with my visit to Sri Aman for the Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri celebration this year,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, Adenan expressed his appreciation to the federal government for granting the upgrading works of Pan Borneo Highway which will start from Sematan, Lundu to Lawas, Limbang.
“This is what we want – a beautiful and smooth road like in Peninsular Malaysia – and we will receive the same development like them.
“With this road, Sarawakians must be thankful to the federal government for contributing a lot towards developing our state especially the rural areas which are still in need of continuous development,” he said.
Others present included Adenan’s wife Datin Patinggi Dato Jamilah Anu, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim, Deputy Home Minister Masir Kujat, State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar, Assistant Minister of Rural Development Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, Assistant Minister of Agriculture (Research and Marketing) Datuk Mong Dagang and Lingga assemblywoman Simoi Peri.
