THE Sibu Tourist Map and the Sibu and Central Region Visitors’ Guide Book are now available at the Sarawak Tourism Board’s (STB) Visitors Information Centre in the town and also at the brochure rack at the Sibu Airport.

The STB management team headed by its chief executive officer Datuk Rashid Khan had a successful meeting to address the complaints about the lack of tourist maps or guide books in the town.

The meeting was with representatives of the Sibu Municipal Council, Sibu Divisional Tourism Task Group, Sarawak Tourism Federation Sibu Branch, Third Division Travel Agent Association, Malaysian Association of Hotels, Malaysian Budget Hotel Association Sibu Chapter and Sarawak Central Region Hotel Association.

The meeting was organized by STB in response to the various comments in the press with regards to the lack of brochures on Sibu.

Rashid told those present that the brochures were available at the Visitors’ Information Centre and at the Sibu Airport. He also reiterated that tourism was very much private sector driven and he hoped that the local industry players could be more creative and create interesting packages to attract tourists to the Central Region.

Sibu could be promoted through festivals and food or by promoting its unique gardens which could attract a certain market segment, he said.
