KUCHING: Investors from Taipei, Taiwan, are keen to know more about business opportunities in the agriculture sector and food processing industry in the state.
The Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to East Asia Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said this was conveyed to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem by the Taiwanese delegations during a courtesy call here yesterday.
“Some of them (investors) said they were interested to venture in agriculture sector and food processing business in the state and the Chief Minister was very supportive about it,” he said.
Tiong said the delegates who were mostly members of Taipei Investors’ Association in Malaysia were expected to deliberate on the subject during their meeting here today.
“At the moment nothing is concrete yet. Probably after their meeting tomorrow they can come up with something because they said this is among the subjects they are going to discuss,” he said.
Tiong told reporters this after accompanying a group of Taiwanese investors to pay a courtesy call on Adenan at his office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia in Petrajaya here yesterday.
“Apart from agriculture and its downstream industries they are also keen to invest in the education sector in the state which they said still has vast opportunities,” he added.
Tiong, who is Bintulu MP, said if this materialises there would be more investors from Taipei investing in the state.
“There are already quite a number of them here now but so far only two are registered with the association,” he said.
