The completed Jalan Sungai Sebedil which has been connected to several longhouses at Sg Sebedil and is in use now for residents going to Sibu town.

SIBU: A government allocation of RM1.4 million has made it possible to complete the upgrading of Jalan Sungai Sebedil into a 3.2-km stretch to connect six longhouses at Sg Sebedil in Batang Igan near here.

Andrew Shilling Banggit, who is a political secretary to the Chief Minister, said the road project will facilitate access for the residents of six longhouses to travel to Sibu town.

“With the availability of the road, the residents only take 45 minutes to go to Sibu,” he told reporters here yesterday.

Jalan Sungai Sebedil is linked to Rumah Henry Barayan, Rh James Ngelayang, Rh Balon Empadeng, Rh Bedindang Limbang, Rh Bosco Pengabang and Rh Braoh Barang, which in total has nearly 100-doors.

According to Andrew, the road has been utilised since last Dec 24 after the road connected another kilometre to the existing road at Sungai Sebedil, with the road from BLD Kabang Plantation.

“Thus, the 3.2 km-long road has been utilised by the residents just before last Christmas as a convenient means of land transport to the residents,” he stated.

Before that, a sum of RM300,000 was spent to build a basic road to Sungai Sebedil which has been completed several years ago by the Public Works Department (JKR).

This was followed by a RM500,000 allocation to build the connecting 1-km road and upgrading the existing road at Sungai Sebedil, also implemented by JKR.

“This allocation (RM500,000) is a project from the Bawang Assan assemblyman Datuk Sri Wong Soon Koh,” said Andrew, while adding that the upgrading project involved sand works and stone-filling.

Besides, RM200,000 has been allocated to build a steel bridge across Sungai Sebedil heading towards Rumah Braoh and another sum of RM400,000 for upgrading works on Jalan Sungai Sebedil.

“Both projects will be implemented and to be completed before yearend,” he added.
