SIBU: The two families in Kampung Seduan whose roofs were damaged by ferocious winds last Sunday evening can go about preparing for the coming fasting month.

Sibu Welfare Department will provide these house owners with building materials to repair their damaged roofs.

The officers from the department rushed to the scene after being notified.

On that fateful evening, strong winds accompanied by heavy rain blew away part of the roof of Abdul Rahman Rajaee’s house.

The house of his neighbour Mohidi Edek was not spared as strong winds left an opening in the roof, exposing his belongings which got soaked by the rain.

Sibu Welfare Department’s assistant director Mohd Guntor said: “We will assist them with the building materials but have yet to work out the amount of materials to be supplied.

“We are still assessing other houses affected by the strong winds.”

Abdul Rahman told The Borneo Post on Monday that he estimated his losses to hover around RM3,000 as the wind destroyed parts of the roof.

He also pointed to the trail in the bushes left by the wind in uprooting trees and levelling plants.

The strong wind also went on to ravage Lorong Permai Timur, apparently the worst hit, damaging the roofs of about a dozen terrace and detached houses.
