KUCHING: State government departments and agencies are urged to modify their conventional service delivery process to digital technology.

State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Morshidi Abdul Ghani said this would ensure that services provided by the government to the people could be delivered in a fast and effective manner.

“If we are still using the conventional method which requires a lot of procedures, it will not help the people much. In this digital era, the process is supposed to be easy and not troublesome.

“Therefore, all government departments and agencies must ensure that they are digitalised so that the service delivery process to the people can be improved and at the same time, contribute towards the economy and development of the state,” he said when officiating at the Land and Survey Department’s Innovation and Integrity Day here yesterday.

Morshidi also commended the department for organising the event which carried the theme ‘Inovasi Memacu Ekonomi Digital’ (Innovation Drives the Digital Economy), which is in line with Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg’s aspiration of transforming the state via digital economy.

“To develop the digital economy, the Land and Survey Dept is also not exempted from this development process, be it in providing sites for communication towers for faster Internet network or providing sites for development,” he said.

He also touched on several concepts that he had introduced previously to improve the work and innovation process of the state government’s services such as the need for every department and agency to have its own Innovative and Creative Group (KIK) and Key Focus Activity (KFA).

“This is a platform to establish a culture of continuous improvement and solutions in the presentation of civil service.

“This is the culture we want to emphasise because we want to alleviate our civil service to become one that is of world-class standard. This is our vision and we want to give our best in every field and aspect of services,” he said.

During the event, Morshidi also presented Service of Excellence Award to officers and staff of the department in recognition of the integrity they inculcated into their work culture.

Their director Zaidi Mahdi was also present at the function.
