‘State Govt To Work Closely With Media’

KUCHING: The state government wants to work closely with the media in the state especially in regards to disseminating information on policies and development in the state.

Deputy State Secretary Datu Misnu Taha said the media played a key role in informing the public of achievement and policies of the government and public sector.

“News regarding development of Sarawak cannot rely solely on government officers but also journalists have contributed a lot towards development in the state through sharing and dissemination of information to the people.

“In fact, with today’s technology, we can see there is some evolution in reporting as today, anyone can be updated with the latest news online provided that there is Internet connection,” he said at a luncheon with the media organised by the Chief Minister’s Office State Protocol and Corporate Affairs Unit at a leading hotel here yesterday.

In view of this, he hoped to see more journalists assist and collaborate with the state government in reporting what is happening in the state particularly issues that concern the people.

“Our officers at the State Protocol and Corporate Affairs Unit are also ever ready to provide members of the media with any information they require.

“As such, news that are new such as the 46 principles and actions announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem ought to be reported accurately and precisely so that the public are aware and understand what has been achieved by the state.

“The people’s expectations today have changed, so whatever we intend to do, we must keep in mind to fulfill the wants and needs of the ‘rakyat’,” he stressed.
