LIMBANG: The flying of the Jalur Gemilang at the school level is an ideal platform for the younger generation to enhance their patriotism.
Limbang MP Hasbi Habibollah said youth as future leaders of the country had to be well-versed in the nation’s history including how it attained its independence.
“August 31 is a historical date for Malaysia for it was the day when the nation was formed which all Malaysians must know and appreciate.
“The flag-flying campaign and singing of the national anthem during the national month is appropriate to nurture the spirit of patriotism,” he said at the launch of the ‘Fly Jalur Gemilang’ campaign of SK Limbang recently.
Limbang District education officer Mohamad Tangah and the school’s headmaster Kartini Hasbollah were among those who attended the function.
In her speech earlier, Kartini said the fly-the-flag campaign would help to nurture love for the country and to promote a caring spirit among the students, teachers and staff of the school.
She said other activities lined up for the campaign until Sept 16 were classroom cheerfulness competition, poetry recital and colouring contests to be participated by about 400 students and teachers.
