1Malaysia Cure And Care Clinic To Help Drug Addicts
Date : 13 April 2011
KUCHING: The 1Malaysia Cure and Care Clinic has been set up in the PUSPEN drug rehabilitation centre here to help drug addicts from going into a relapse.
Deputy Home Minister Dato Wira Abu Seman Yusop said the clinic will offer treatments to inmates of the centre as well as those who come voluntarily to help them overcome their addictions, including glue sniffing and inhalant.
“Parents or relatives of the drug dependant persons can bring them to seek treatment at the clinic,” he said at the closing of Home Ministry Program Mesra at PUSPEN here yesterday.
Also present were National Anti-Drug Agency (NADA) director general Dato’ Zuraidah Mohamed and state NADA director Yap Chung Hong.
Abu Seman added that a meeting between NADA and the state Health Department has agreed to assign doctors at the clinic to handle treatments and patients.
The agency, he said, has organised many outreach programmes, either through community, institution or religious activities to eradicate drug abuse.
“Here, the enforcement is monitoring the situation closely and the operation is ongoing. We hope that through organising more activities, the rate of drug abuse would decrease.
Therefore, he urged more participation from Rakan Anti Dadah (RADA), Drug Rehabilitation Committee, non-government organisations (NGOs) and others to ensure the government’s aim to be a drug-free country in 2015 could be realised.
Prior to the function, Abu Seman visited Taman Matang Ria, Kampung Semariang Pinggir, Kota Padawan and Tabuan Dayak respectively to personally deliver the MyKad to the recipients.
