LIMBANG: The Limbang New Township will be a mini Putrajaya when it is developed as the town’s main administration and development centre.
Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said that the government had plans to construct government office complexes, residential houses and other infrastructure in the area.
Elaborating that the new township would be developed in phases, he also said it could house the new District Police Headquarters and a new mosque.
“The new township, which is also the development landmark for more than 50,000 local folks, would be developed into an administrative centre, like a mini Putrajaya. We have drafted the project,” he said when officiating at ‘Pesta Malam Merdeka Ria Pesta Limbang 2013’ on Saturday.
Joining him at the ceremony were State Legislative Assembly speaker Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, Limbang MP Hasbi Habibollah, Bukit Kota assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Palu Gumbang and Limbang Resident Maria Hasman.
On a related matter, Awang Tengah said he had already proposed to the government to build a shipyard at Limbang
river mouth when the bridge across Limbang River is completed.
“When the bridge construction is completed, a shipyard for ships to anchor needs to be built far from the mouth of Limbang River to reduce traffic at the river,” he added.
Apart from the new township, he assured that greater efforts would be made to build roads and bring electricity and clean water supply to rural areas.
“The availability of infrastructure will encourage the growth of agriculture industry and the rural people to develop their lands commercially,” he added.
