SIBU: A total of 1,100 houses will be built at Mile 10 Oya Road to accommodate extended families from Kpg Nangka and Kpg Hilir.

Housing Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg said this when addressing residents of Kampung Datu here yesterday.

“We have secured a new site at Mile 10 Oya Road to accommodate the extended families from Kpg Nangka and Kpg Hilir,” he said, adding that lots presently available at the villages were insufficient to meet the needs.

He said the new site was also to resettle those living along the banks of  the Batang Igan who were affected by erosion.

“If there are new generations, we will find a new place to accommodate them,” he said.

Abang Johari said he had discussed the matter with the prime minister who promised to develop modern kampungs with modern infrastructure.

He said development projects involving huge allocations in the quarry area had been approved by the government.

He added that work on the second phase of Kpg Bandong had started.

On housing needs in Kuching, Kapit and Sibu, the housing minister pointed out it needed a lot of planning and that 13 kampungs would be involved in Kuching.

For Miri, there would be no problem as the infrastructure had been built.

Among those present were Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee, Temenggong Datuk Wan Hamid Edruce and Sibu Resident Sim Kok Kee.
