MIRI: Communities in the state must avoid segregating themselves based on race and religion, but instead work together to grow stronger as Sarawakians.
Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat who said this added that unity amongst the many races has always been a pride of the state, and an envy of others.
“The celebration of the Mooncake Festival or Mid-Autumn Festival stresses on reunion of the family and community.
“It stresses the importance of unity, which is why it is positively overwhelming to see members of SUPP Lambir Youth and PBB members coming together to celebrate the occasion,” he said.
Ripin was speaking when officiating at the Mooncake Festival celebration organised by SUPP Lambir branch here on Saturday.
On a separate matter, he called on community leaders and village heads to inform his office if they are in need of assistance or funds, in order for him to forward the request to the Sarawak government.
He added that among the projects in the pipeline include upgrading works at Lorong Sungai Rait 3, 4, and 5, as well as at SJK(C) Chung Hua Bakam to be carried out next year.
Among those present at the event were Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting who is also SUPP Piasau branch chairman, and SUPP Lambir branch chairman Lee Thin Hin.
The celebration also featured a fashion show using recycled material participated by students of SJK(C) Chung Hua Bakam and SJK(C) Tukau.
In the lower primary category, Chloe Tan emerged as the winner while Cheng Jing Hong and George Hiu Jiu Irk placed second and third, respectively.
In the upper primary category, Cherry Tan won first place while Gracella Ruran Seminar Batuncang came in second and Yaw Siaw Mey, third.
