MIRI: Students who did not excel in SPM and STPM examinations need not despair as the government provides alternative pathways.

Samalaju assemblyman Majang Renggi made the remark while officiating at SMK Subis’s Motivation and Inspiration Programme at the school in Batu Niah recently.

“Although you (students) did not do well in public examination and couldn’t get a place in institutions of higher learning, please don’t be sad.

“The government provides various alternatives such as polytechnic, Mara Skills Institute and even at private sectors,” he stated.

Majang advised the students to choose the right courses to match the needs of the current job market in order to be gainfully employed.

“Subis area is part of Samalaju constituency which is the main industrial centre for Sarawak. Several heavy industries at Samalaju Industrial Park and Tanjung Kidurong, which is a centre for oil and gas industry, need technical and skills staff,” he added.

He encouraged the students to take up technical and skill courses to meet the increasing demand and advised them to keep abreast with globalisation as Sarawak moves into digital economy.
