Education Carnival at Pustaka Miri on Oct 9

MIRI: Some 300 participants are expected to throng Pustaka Miri for the Education Carnival 2011 that is scheduled for Oct 9.

The one-day event is jointly organised by Ikram Malaysia (Miri) Education Bureau, Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim), Baitulmal Sarawak (Miri) and Pustaka Miri.

Organising spokesperson said the programmes are designed with parents and children in mind.

“The carnival is aimed at identifying  the challenges faced by parents nowadays in bringing up their children as well as the roles parents have in educating their children in accordance with Islamic laws,” she said.

She added the event would also provide a venue for parents to discuss suitable ideas on balanced education support system.

Various programme or activities planned for parents include the main address entitled ‘Importance of Education in Shaping A Family’ by motivator Dr Hafidzah Mustakim, a medical doctor by profession from Kelantan and a forum dubbed ‘Children Entrusted by Allah’.

For the children, there will be colouring contest (aged 7 – 9), quiz (10 – 12) and multi-games (13 and above).

There will also be a Mini Education Fair that will include counters offering information by Teachers’ Training Institute (IPG) Sarawak Campus, National Youth Skills Institute (IKBN), Community College Miri, Industrial Training Institute (ILP), Open University, Curtin University Sarawak Campus, Fajar Institute and Sarawak Skills Development Centre (PPKS).

Bookstores such as Popular, KK Bookstore and Inspirasi Minda will also be setting up booths offering books and educational items. Sibuti member of parliament  Ahmad Lai Bujang is expected to grace the closing ceremony at 11:30am.
