SIBU: Residents of Sentosa area here, especially those in Kampung Sentosa, are urged to be patient while waiting for the upgrading of infrastructure facilities such as roads, to be completed.

According to the chairman of Sibu Municipal Council, Datuk Tiong Thai King, they were upgrading the roads built over peat soil, from time-to-time.

“We upgrade the roads once every two to three years due to the sinking problem, which involves heavy cost.

Without upgrading the roads are susceptible to flash flood when it rains heavily. We know such situation is causing inconvenience to the residents,” he said when addressing the inaugural installation of office-bearers of Sibu Sentosa Area Community Association at Li Hua Hotel here recently.

Nguan Ching Kei was installed as the association’s chief for the 2015-2016 term.

Tiong, who is former Lanang MP, said the council’s application for funds to upgrade the roads in Kampung Sentosa, Kampung Bahagia and Kampung Jeriah had been approved a fortnight ago.

Kampung Bahagia was allocated with RM1 million, Kampung Sentosa (RM780,000) and Kampung Jeriah (RM700,000), he said, adding the council would decide how best to improve infrastructure in the areas concerned.

On the newly-formed association, Tiong said he was confident that under the leadership of Nguan, it would live up to the expectation of residents.

The Sentosa area has more than 1,000 families under its jurisdiction.

A political secretary to chief minister, Pau Kiew Chuang and SSACA advisor Oliver Kuo were among those present.
