LAWAS: A total of 200 senior citizens here applied for the Kenyalang Gold Card during a registration drive organised by Kelab Kebajikan dan Penyayang Lawas and the Welfare Department over the weekend.
Lawas member of parliament Datuk Henry Sum Agong was pleased with the encouraging response.
“The Kenyalang Gold Card for senior citizens should be promoted to traders so that they could register with the Sarawak government that issued the card,” he said.
Henry said the Kenyalang Gold Card is among the initiatives of the Sarawak government under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to help senior citizens aged 60 and above to enjoy special privileges and discounts.
Club chairman Yong Kah Sing said the registration programme would be conducted in all areas in Lawas District to assist senior citizens.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is scheduled to officially launch the card on Saturday (March 7) in Kuching.
Holders of the card will get discounts from companies offering services such as optical, health, dental, reflexology, bus transportation, food outlets, pharmacies, retail, tailoring, hair salons, and even employment agencies offering maids.
