ANNUAL REPORT 2009
In 2009, the Department together with regional and international intergovernmental
organizations such as International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), United Nations
Development Programme (UNDP), Heart of Borneo (HoB) and RAMSAR had done several
projects related to conservation, natural resource management, sustainable forest
management as well as corporate social responsibility. Some of the projects are as below.
1. KUCHING WETLAND NATIONAL PARK – RAMSAR SITE PROJECT
The project duration was 12 months (August 2008 – August 2009) and was completed in
August 2009.
Project Objective
The main objective of this Management and Development Plan (MDA) was to gather
significant information needed for the development and formulation of Kuching Wetland
National Park – RAMSAR Site Management Plan (2011-2020).
Progress Meeting of MDA on 15 June 2009 at Wisma Sumber Alam:
2. Communication, Educaton, Participation and Awareness (CEPA) Programme
Three (3) Ramsar awareness programmes were carried out in 2009 at Regional Forest
Office, Sibu and Matang Wildlife Centre. Conservation talk at Regional Forest Office, Sibu
was attended by Forest Department Sarawak staff while full residential course in Matang
Wildlife Centre was attended by teachers and students from SK Temenggong, SK Telaga Air,
SK Matang, SK Sibu Laut and SK Salak.
