B) Transboundary Biodiversity Conservation – The Pulong Tau National Park (PTNP),Phase II

The Pulong Tau National Park, the second Transboundary Biodiversity Conservation for ITTO-
supported Projects in Sarawak, began in February 2008 for a period of 36 months. The

objective of this project is to contribute to the conservation of natural ecosystems in the
Northern Highlands of Sarawak and to the sustainable development of the local

communities, through the implementation activities of biodiversity conservation and support

to local socio-economic development initiatives. The specific objectives are: (a) to promote
the ecosystem values of the PTNP through integrated conservation management; (b) to
strengthen transboundary conservation management emphasizing cross-border

participation approach involving the local communities.


PTNP Project Activities in 2009:

i. Community-based activities:

a. Bario Nursery

 The nursery in Bario was upgraded and restocked with fruit seedlings and tree

wildlings of gaharu, durian isu, rambutan, bindang, sempilor, geronggang, bintangor,

nyatoh, meranti merah, empili, tampoi and engkala.
