 Three longhouse communities in Ulu Engkari, namely Rh. Bada, Rh. Jaong and Rh.

Patrick had adopted this system by agreeing not to fish in the river until the stock,

mainly of ikan semah had been replenished.


c. Crop cultivation

 A total of 1,500 fruit seedlings comprising rambutan, mango, dabai and langsat were

distributed to the communities in Ng. Ngemah, Ulu Mujok and Batang Ai.


ii. Transboundary Biodiversity Conservation Area

 A joint workshop on ‘Sharing Experience in Conservation Management and

Community Participation ‘ with Bentung Kerihun National Park (BKNP), Indonesia was
held from 16-17 March 2009. Participants include 13 officers from BKNP and Danau

Sentarum National Park, Indonesia, and 42 officers from Forest Department
Sarawak, Sarawak Forestry Corporation, ITTO and Agriculture Department. A visit to

community projects was organized to Ulu Mujok and Ulu Kanowit, Julau was for the
Indonesian participants after the workshop.



iii. Capacity building:


 Nine (9) from HQ, three (3) RFO Sibu, one (1) RFO Miri and two (2) RFO Bintulu), ITTO
and Sarawak Forestry Corporation visited the Tagal System in Kampung Luanti,

Ranau Sabah from 7 - 10 October 2009. The purpose of the visit was to learn about
the success and management of Tagal System in Sabah. At the same time, the

officers also visited Kinabalu Park to learn about the biodiversity conservation and
management, community participation and developments of the park.
