FOREST DEPARTMENT SARAWAK
ANNUAL REPORT 2009
6. Monitoring LOTs Implementation
Effective from 1st January 2009, Log Tracking System (LOTs) was implemented throughout
the State after it had been introduced as a pilot project in Sibu Region for a decade. A team
of technical staff from Forest Department were deployed to the ground in February 2009 to
assess the roll-out exercise. It was found out that two District Customer Service Centres in
Long Lama had the slowest connection and took a long time to transmit data to the
database. Due to that problem, a lot of data had to be transmitted during non-office hour
(night time) just to ensure that no further delay in LOTs processes and to meet customer
satisfaction. Action had been taken by installating remote desktop application at SFC
Corporate Office in Kuching.
7. Monitoring Input Data for Mill in the Forests
The Department are responsible for compiling the input for all mills in the forest throughout
the State and has been given the mandate to check the consignment of logs before it can
be utilized. There are two (2) mills in the Miri Region, two (2) in Bintulu and four (4) in Sibu.
During the year, there were no irregularities detected for all mills in the forest.
11. Monitoring Tag Plastic Printing and Distribution
The Director of Forests had instructed the industry to use only inkjet printed Log Production
Identity (LPI) plastic tag. There are three (3) printing companies that have been registered
with SFD and they only allow printing certain range of LPI number based on approval given
by SFC at each respective region. The section monitors and compares the data between
range approved by SFC and those printed by printing company. If found not tally, it will be
reported to Director of Forests for further action.
