BAU: Siniawan town near here will have a mobile stage that will enable more activities to be run towards providing a more vibrant environment to both locals and visitors.

Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh said the project, including tarsealing works on the site, would be implemented by Bau District Council (BDC), while works to demolish an old building to give way to the project would be carried out  by the locals on a ‘gotong-royong’ (work party) basis.

He pointed out that the stage which could be dismantled when not used would benefit the locals because many activities like stage shows could be held, while the site could be used by the locals for hawking purposes.

“Once, we have the stage, the locals will benefit because if we want to have a show, we can just erect the stage and if not in use, we can remove it and the site could be used by the locals to sell food and various products,” he said during a visit to the town on Friday.

Accompanying him were permanent secretary to Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datu Ik Pahon Joyik, BDC secretary Simon Wong and local community leaders.

Miro did not mention when the project, which is sited next to the riverbank, would start, but pointed out that it would definitely be implemented.

He stressed that something needed to be done to further boost Siniawan as a heritage town in order to attract more tourists to the area.

“We want to bring back the glory days of Siniawan so we need to do something,” he said, adding that the night market, selling varieties of food and drinks which started in 2010 has helped to draw more people to the town.
