BAU: Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Islamic Affairs) Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman on Friday night presented RM100,000 grant to St John’s Church in Kampung Sagah.

The grant was for the church renovation including building a hall for the benefit of the villagers.

Speaking at the function, Daud said the people, irrespective of race and religion have the right to receive grants from the government.

“All the people, irrespective of race and religion have the right to receive grants from the government and as an elected representative, it is my responsibility to look after the welfare of the people,” the Tupong assemblyman pointed out.

He hoped that the church committee would spend the grant wisely, particularly to improve the education of the children in the village.

On the political front, Daud urged the constituents to reject the opposition in the coming state election.

“We must all reject opposition because they will raise and stir up issues without doing anything,” he stressed, adding that Barisan Nasional (BN) cares and look after the welfare of the people.

He also cited the political crisis in Selangor where the opposition was fighting among themselves to become the Menteri Besar.

He went on to say that the situation in the state was stable because the people were well aware that Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Adenan Satem look after the welfare of all races, and not only Malays.

For that reason, he hoped that the people will preserve harmony among the various races and religions, and not to gamble the future by supporting the opposition.

The cost to build the church hall is estimated at RM288,000 and Daud has agreed to approve an additional RM150,000 grant next year.

Among those present were the village chief Vincent Agen John and the church chairman Wilfred Benjamin.
