KUCHING: Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) is a goldmine, but Chinese investors would not come unless they know its growth potential, said Liu Quan, Chinese Consulate General in Kuching.

Hence, he said the onus was for Sarawak to disseminate the latest information about SCORE to the huge China market.

Liu said China planned to invest US$500 billion (RM1.5 trillion) globally, including in Asean, in the next five years, and Sarawak should woo some of the investors to its shores.

“But first, SCORE must provide the latest information to the Chinese market so that they know (the potential). After they know more about SCORE, they can find good partners here because having the right partner is very important,” Liu told reporters covering the courtesy call on him by Sarawak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and Housing Development Corporation (HDC) members at his office here yesterday.

SCCI members were led by its president Datuk Abang Abdul Karim Tun Openg while HDC members were led by its chairman Datuk Abang Abdul Rauf Zain.

“I think the delegation from China that will be coming here after Hari Raya can sit down for a discussion about SCORE. I myself have gone to Bintulu and I know most of the land there has been allocated to different sectors,” said Liu.

“So, I hope many Chinese firms will be interested to invest in SCORE.”

He told his guests that China’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Dr Huang Huikang, who recently paid courtesy calls on the Yang di-Pertua Negeri and Chief Minister, was optimistic that investors from China would be keen to explore business opportunities in Sarawak.

Liu reiterated that China looked at Malaysia as a strategic partner in Asean, especially after the visit of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to his country recently in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries.

“We have a special relationship. We look at Malaysia as a very stable and conducive country to invest, and Sarawak has good harmony between the Chinese, the Bidayuhs, the Ibans and the Malays. So we can have a good bridge between China and Sarawak.”

He thus hoped the close ties between the business community in China and Sarawak could be enhanced.
