KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) for the year 2020 will be focusing on improving its ‘linkage and connectivity’ with its stakeholders to enhance its efficiency in serving them, said its mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng.

To do so, he said MBKS and its management are going through an overhaul to re-engineer itself towards increasing the council’s capacity in managing its stakeholders, namely the state authority and its citizens.

“As the mayor of Kuching South, I’ve made a few important commitments to improve our city holistically. The theme for MBKS’ year 2020 operation is to improve on ‘linkage and connectivity’.

“A council is most irrelevant when the people do not feel connected to it. As such the importance of getting in touch with the people must not be overlooked, for only through constant engagement with our citizens that we can measure the efficacy and efficiency of our work effectively,” said Wee.

Speaking during MBKS’s Chinese New Year Gathering With The Community 2020 at the Padungan Community Hall here this morning, he also thanked the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for bringing Sarawak to greater heights.

“The government of today is bringing Sarawak to a greater height by building upon the very foundation built by Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

“Therefore MBKS shall strive to become a people-centric council that embraces a high level of professionalism and integrity,” he said.

Present during the event were Taib and Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib.

On another note, Wee said the MBKS’s Chinese New Year Gathering With The Community cum Chap Goh Meh 2020 event is part of MBKS’s Neighbourliness Programme to promote cultural events within the council’s jurisdiction.

He said through the event, MBKS hoped to create platforms and opportunities for Sarawakians of various backgrounds and ethnicities to interact and to engage better among one another.

“We are adamant in organising more and more events that would reflect the state government’s stand in building an integrated and harmonious society,” he said.
