KUCHING: The annual Kenyalang Chinese New Year (CNY) Bazaar which was officially launched last Saturday runs until Feb 4.
A total of 248 stalls at Kenyalang Park Community Centre offer a wide variety of festive goods such as cookies, jerky, ‘nian gao’ (steamed glutinous rice cake), preserved food and festive decorative items.
Some enterprising Malay and Indian traders join in the festivity by selling cookies and cakes at the bazaar.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian launched the bazaar. Also present were Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk James Chan, Temenggong Tan Joo Phoi, Penghulu Tan Heng Kee and Penghulu Tan Tuan Yee.
Local artists performing on a decorated truck during the launch enlivened the festive atmosphere.
Dr Sim, who is Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president, handed out mandarin oranges to all stall operators during the launch.
