The Department was responsible for enforcing all laws and regulations under the purview of

Forest Department Sarawak, namely Forests Ordinance, (Chapter 126, Forest) Rules 1962,

Wild Life Protection Ordinance, 1998, (Chapter 26), the Wild Life Protection Rules 1998, the
Wild Life Protection (Edible Birds’ Nests) Rules, 1998, National Parks and Nature Reserves

Ordinance, 1998 and the National Parks and Nature Reserves Regulations, 1999.

The scope of duties carried out by the Department ranged from intelligence procurement,

operation which include arrest of suspects, seizures of properties, prosecution and

compounding of certain cases and to maintain data and records on relevant subjects.

In the year under review, enforcement of all laws and regulations under the purview of

Department involved a total of 71 investigations and inspections throughout the state of
Sarawak. There was an increase in the number of arrests and seizures. 522 cases were

made in 2009 and are summarized in the tables below:
