7. Heart of Borneo Initiative (HoB)
The Heart of Borneo Initiative (HoB) is a preservation and sustainable development
programme aimed at conserving and managing the contiguous tropical forest in the island of
Borneo. The objectives of HoB Initiative are to conserve the last expanse of contiguous
forest in Borneo; to maximize transboundary linkages; promote the expansion of protected
area network; maintain forest connectivity and ensure sustainable land use practices. The
Declaration signed in Bali, Indonesia on 12 February 2007, among others, highlighted a
voluntary transboundary cooperation of the three countries.
Activities in 2009
a. Meeting
State Steering Committee Meeting on HoB was held in Kuching on 9 March 2009 &
National Expert Working Groups Meeting was held at Kota Kinabalu Sabah on 15-16
May 2009
b. Seminar on Biodiversity of Eastern Lanjak Entimau:
Sarawak Hidden Jewel Seminar was
held on 4-5 March 2009 which was
attended by scientists and
researchers from Academic Sains
Malaysia (ASM), Local Universities,
government agencies and non-
governmental organizations.
