Overview
MEITD is responsible for developing and overseeing state-level education policies and
initiatives, particularly in areas where Sarawak has been granted autonomy under the Malaysia
Agreement 1963 (MA63). While education is largely a federal matter, MEITD plays a key role in
facilitating and complementing federal education policies to bridge gaps and enhance education
quality across Sarawak.

Roles
MEITD is responsible for developing, coordinating, and monitoring education policies that
complement federal initiatives while addressing Sarawak ’s unique socio-economic needs. The
ministry facilitates education infrastructure development, promotes STEM (Science,
Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and
Training), and provides strategic oversight for state-owned educational institutions to ensure
quality education delivery.
