Yang Berhormat Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Morshidi

bin Abdul Ghani

I would like to express my gratitude and congratulations to everyone in

the Kuching Resident Office who worked very hard to produce this book
with support and assistance from other Government departments and
agencies. Without the team spirit and willingness to work together, whether
it was from within or outside of the department, the publication of this
book would not have been possible today. As a State Secretary, I am proud
to see such dedication and enthusiasm from those involved in making this
important book possible.

This book was initiated by the Sarawak Government with the purpose of
chronicling through photographs the development, modernisation and prosperity
achieved by the people including the sacrifices of former leaders of Kuching
division throughout Sarawak’s 45 years within Malaysia. The book’s title
“KUCHING . . . Terus Makmur” or “Prosperous Kuching” is in tandem with the
status and development of Kuching as the more developed division where the
focus is now on the prosperity, solidarity, peace and harmony among its
multi-ethnic population.

As a Kuching boy, browsing through this book brings fond memories of
the old Kuching and I must say I am very proud to see how Kuching
Division has developed for the last 45 years. The residents of Kuching are
fortunate to have benefited from the developments in the Division. With that,
we should all appreciate it and be better equipped to breast the next wave of
development.

It is my hope that this book will be a source of pride for all Kuching residents
and be a part of our heritage.

Thank you and happy reading.
