INITIATIVES
SARAWAK INNOVATION INDEX (SARII)
The Sarawak Innovation Index (SARii) is a comprehensive framework developed to assess and
strengthen Sarawak’s innovation ecosystem. Anchored by strategic engagements with key
stakeholders including the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), the Malaysian
Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT), the World Intellectual Property
Organization (WIPO), and private sector leaders, SARii is aligned with both national and global
standards.
By integrating elements of the Malaysia Innovation Index (MII) and the Global Innovation Index (GII),
SARii offers a clear, data-driven picture of Sarawak’s innovation performance. This enables effective
benchmarking against regional and international counterparts, while guiding evidence-based
policymaking and focused investments in research, talent, and technology.
STEM TRAILBLAZERS SARAWAK
Through collaboration with Sarawak’s state-owned universities (Swinburne, Curtin and UTS), a large-
scale STEM carnival is held annually across the 3 main universities where each year the main host
are rotated between them (in 2025, Curtin will be the main host). An average of 6000 participants
are recorded throughout the 2-day carnival.
2024 participations: 6,400
