Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC) is one of the
leading state government research agencies
focusing on natural product discovery from the
biodiversity. SBC’s programmes include Traditional
Knowledge Documentation, Research and
Development (Bioprospecting), Bioinformatics,
Biodiversity Garden and Awareness and
Appreciation. These five programmes align with the
statutory functions stipulated in the Sarawak
Biodiversity Centre (Amendment) Ordinance 2003.
Through Traditional Knowledge Documentation
Programme, SBC collaborates with indigenous
communities in Sarawak to preserve their Traditional
Knowledge using proper documenting techniques.
Leveraging this documented knowledge, the R&D
programme focuses on identifying novel therapeutic
and useful compounds dervied from Sarawak’s
unique biodiversity.
