INITIATIVES
FREE TERTIARY EDUCATION
Objectives:
Provide equal access to higher education - Ensure that all eligible Anak Sarawak have the
opportunity to pursue tertiary education without financial burden;
Develop a highly skilled and educated workforce - Support the state’s vision of producing
qualified graduates who can contribute to Sarawak’ s economic and social development.
Reduce financial constraints on students and families - Ease the financial burden on
Sarawakian families by covering tuition fees and related costs for tertiary education; and
Encourage lifelong learning and academic excellence - Motivate students to achieve high
academic performance and cultivate a culture of continuos learning.
Starting in 2026, Sarawak will offer free higher education for Sarawakian students at state-
owned higher education institutions namely,
The policy direction for this initiative focuses on STEM-based Bachelor’s Degree programs and
selected Professional courses, such as:
