Forest Land Use

Based on satellite imagery in 2012, the total land use area of Sarawak is 12.38 million
hectares. The breakdown of the land use based on forest type is shown below:

Forest Management Plan (FMP) for New Long-Term Forest Timber Licence (FTL)

Timber harvesting in the permanent forest estate is limited to concessions which are
managed according to a Forest Management Plan. This Forest Management Plan is a legal
document and forms the Second Schedule of the Forest Timber Licence. It may be revised
from time to time to incorporate the latest survey and research findings. In 2012, a total of two
(2) Forest Management Plans were prepared, namely Management Plan for Marudi Forest
Reserve – Peat Swamp Forest (PSF) and Bakun Forest Management Plan.

The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Social Environment Impact
Assessment (SEIA) Report

A total of five (5) Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Social Environment Impact
Assessment (SEIA) were carried out in 2012 as shown below:

1. The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Report for the proposed Hill Logging
under Timber Licence No.T/8495 (GHR Oil Palm Sdn Bhd) at Batang Ai, Sg.
Menyang, Lubok Antu District, Sri Aman, Sarawak;
2. The Social and Enviromental Impact Assessment (SEIA) of the Murum HEP;
3. The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Report for Shin Yang Kuala Baram
Tree Planting Plan at Kuala Baram, Miri, Sarawak – Shin Yang Plywood Sdn Bhd.;
4. The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Report for FTL No. T/3398 (Apaiwood
Ind. Sdn Bhd) – (Multiplus Realty Sdn. Bhd.) between Batang Baleh & Sg. Gaat,
Kapit; and
5. The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Report on FTL No. T/9082 – SIF
Management Sdn. Bhd.

Permit to Enter Coupe (PEC)

Started from year 2012, PEC issued by Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) was submitted
to Forest Department Sarawak Headquarters for updating and Regional Forest Offices for
monitoring and supervision. The number of PEC issued is shown below.
