CORPORATE PROGRESS

PrODUCtiOn

The Boards has two (2) treatment plants, namely Bukit Lima & Salim Water Treatment Plants with a design
capacity of 45 MLD and 150 MLD respectively.

The Board produced a total of 53,083 ML fully treated water in the year 2016 or an average of 145.432
ML per day, an increase of 7.18% over that of 2015. During the year, the Board recorded a maximum daily
production of 154.085 ML and a minimum daily production of 134.016 ML.

QUaLitY COntrOL
Treated water quality control has always been the core business of Sibu Water Board (SWB).

During the year, 23,718 samples were taken from Raw Water Intakes, Treatment Plants, High Level Tanks
& Reservoirs and Distribution System for water examination. Out of this number, 21,611 samples were
analyzed for Physico-chemical Test while the remaining 2,107 samples were examined for Bacteriological
Test, as shown in the table below:

From the water samples sent to Chemistry Department Sibu by Health Department Sibu, 33.0% of the raw
water samples were found to contain Total Coliform exceeding 5,000 MPN/100 ml (maximum acceptable
level for conventional water treatment). This is not unusual as raw water often contains the presence of
bacteria. However, with the effective water treatment process control and close quality monitoring, none of
the treated water samples were contaminated with Total Coliform and E. Coli bacteria. There was also no
violation for Residual Chlorine.

SWB continued to strive in providing quality portable water according to the recommendations stated in
National Drinking Water Quality Standards (NDWQS). We are pleased to share our achievement that for
the Year 2016, SWB has achieved zero violation for all the parameters stated in NDWQS.
