FOREST DEPARTMENT SARAWAK
ANNUAL REPORT 2009
brought us to the higher level of understanding of entomology. The collaboration also
allowed the staff to gain vital information and most importantly their working culture.
Furthermore, the Department has successfully developed the Hyperspectral Sensing
Program (Technology Applications for Natural Resource Assessment) to gain detailed
forest cover parameters and this was initiated through the collaboration with Spectral
Imaging (SPECIM) of Finland for the development of the Airborne Hyperspectral Imaging
System (AHIS), thus, the Department has constructed its own local in house expertise of
such technology.
In order to augment the competence of the Department, the Department continued to
work together in areas of common interests or as a mere complement to each other’s
requirements such as manpower and expertise. Moreover, programmes and field trips
were planned as a refreshment course or training in an effort to enhance the aptitude and
knowledge of our staff and enable the staff to share and demonstrate skills within the
Department.
Lastly, on behalf of the Department, I would like to express my gratitude to the
management and staff of Forest Department Sarawak for the solidarity and this year’s
achievement. With great assistance and full commitment shown by all the staff, the
Department was administered and managed smoothly and successfully in the year 2009.
