Research excellence and cross-sectoral collaboration are fundamental to advancing Sarawak’s
knowledge economy, driving technological innovation, and addressing critical socio-economic and
environmental challenges. This objective seeks to strengthen Sarawak’s research ecosystem by
fostering high-quality, interdisciplinary, and industry-relevant research initiatives, ensuring that
academic discoveries translate into real-world applications and impactful solutions.

By facilitating strategic partnerships among universities, research institutions, industries, and
government agencies, this initiative encourages knowledge-sharing, joint R&D projects, and
commercialization of research outputs. Emphasis is placed on high-growth sectors such as
biotechnology, renewable energy, digital economy, and advanced manufacturing, aligning research
priorities with Sarawak’s Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 and the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs).

Additionally, this objective focuses on enhancing research infrastructure, increasing funding
opportunities, and strengthening policy frameworks to position Sarawak as a regional hub for
research excellence and innovation-driven growth. By supporting a robust R&D ecosystem, Sarawak
can attract global research talent, foster competitive grant programs, and develop innovative
solutions that contribute to long-term socio-economic transformation.
