Community Service Initiatives
In 2012, a total of 15 activities were carried out for the local community as stated below:
1. To monitored Penans‟ house project in Ba‟Medamot, Ulu Kubaan, and Baram, Miri in March
2012;
2. Carried out pioneer project on planting various fruit trees and Gaharu in Ba‟ Medamot in
September 2012;
3. Undertook plantation project of Gaharu trees for the local community in Ba‟kelalan in
September, 2012;
4. Built a bridge (32m) across Kubaan river under the project of ITTO in collaboration with
Samling Company in November 2012;
5. Organized a workshop on handcraft skills from 2 to 6 July 2012 to train the Ba‟Kelalan
community especially women in order to lead them for a better living;
6. Constructed shelter facilities for the tourists as well as the local community for the Tagang Ulu
Engkari system from 4 April to 26 April 2012;
7. Constructed a bridge across the river of Engkeramoh, Ulu Engkari at Rumah Jaong and Ulu
Engkari for the benefit of students, teachers as well as local community;
8. Inspected the tree planting activities for the community in Ulu Merario and re-construction of
Bario nursery from 31 January to 15 February 2012;
9. Organized Rattan Handcraft Workshops from 17 to 22 September 2012 in collaboration with
Malaysian Handicrafts to train the Ba‟Kelalan community for making furniture skills by using
rattan;
10. Built the fences surrounding the plantation of the fruit trees and Gaharu trees from 11 to 25
September 2012;
11. Inspected Tagang Ulu Engkari (RH Jaong and Rh Bada) on 4 October 2012;
12. Delivered 200 bags of cement for constructing the micro hydro project at Rh. Jaong Ulu
Engkari;
13. Inspected the tree planting project of 1000 Gaharu seedlings in Ulu Ju Ranjer Stasen, Julau;
14. Distributed 400 Gaharu seedlings to Rh. Anthony Bau and Rh. Mengiring for planting; and
15. Jointly organised Environmental Awareness Workshops at Bukit Lambir National Park, Miri in
May 2012 with Sarawak Forestry Corporation and Sarawak Environment Department.
