Prosperous Kuching

Kuching had been the seat of the Government since the beginning.
The rich cultural diversity of its people is unmatched anywhere
else. The culture of the local people is living and dynamic,
although changing with the times, it is generally well respected.
There is so much to tell in the local culture that we find it hard
to find a beginning. The Sarawak Cultural Village in Damai
Santubong is the best showcase on the lives and habits of Sarawak
people. There in the natural setting of the tropical rainforest lies
the longhouses and habitation of her people. In the past, people
live in longhouses for the purpose of protection against enemy attack.
Today, we continue to live in the concrete longhouses of the housing
estates in the city. The communities might have changed in
their living habits, but their culture remains rather intact. Each
community celebrates their own new year.
