KUCHING: The people here should think of ways to reduce the amount of waste they are generating, which currently stands at about 700,000kg a day.
Deputy controller of the state Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Justine Jok Jau Emang said the figure was derived from a survey they had conducted which found that the city’s population of about 700,000 people generated about one kg of waste per person a day.
“How are we going to contain all the waste generated? Are we going to continue generating a kg of waste per person a day or should we think of ways to reduce it?

SIBU: The art of making traditional kites among the younger generation is fast fading with the emergence of modern gadgets.
As such, Sarawak National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) Nangka Unit secretary Mohamad Safree Mohamad is optimistic that the recent kite competition at SMK Sibu Jaya is a step in the right direction to preserve the waning practice.

SIBU: Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh is confident that Sarawak will shine in Wushu again when the state hosts Sukma next year.

KUCHING: The state government is currently looking at collaborating with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) to introduce technology incubators to help create world-class companies.
Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Promotion of Technical Education) Datu Len Talif Salleh said the incubator programme, under Unimas Engage initiative, would see the university working with various industry players to develop ideas and turning them into marketable products.

KANOWIT: Ngemah assemblyman Alexander Vincent has announced an allocation of RM1,500 to each parents-teachers association (PTA) of 18 schools across his constituency.
According to him, the 1Malaysia People’s Foundation had agreed to allocate the amount.
The assemblyman was met after the closing of district-level ‘Excellent Boarding School Awards (ASAT) Carnival 2015’ at SK Nanga Ngungun here recently.

KUCHING: Petronas has allocated RM2.75 million to set up a ‘Community Education Programme’ that would enable Penan children from five villages in Apoh/Tutoh areas of Baram in Miri to access early childhood education.
This pilot project is to be carried out in partnership with the Welfare, Women and Family Development Ministry, the federal Community Development Department (Kemas), state Education Department, Sarawak Early Childhood Education Council, Miri Resident Office as well as other relevant departments and agencies.
