KUCHING: The proposed underpass located at DatukAbang Haji Kipali roundabout in Petra Jaya and the four-lane access road from Matang Lee Ling to Stapok will start construction this March.
According to Infrastructure Development Assistant Minister Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman, the underpass project, which would cost RM60 million, will take around 20 months to complete.
“Meanwhile, the new Matang-Stapok four-lane access road with a bridge will cost RM140 million and will take 30 months to be completed, and we are still waiting the final plan from the consultant,” said Daud.

KUCHING: Individuals from the diverse community are encouraged to join the Police Volunteer Reserves in support of crime prevention and community policing.
Crime Prevention and Community Security Department chief SAC Burhanuddin Abdul Majid emphasised yesterday that Sarawak targets to recruit 4,280 officers and members by 2017.
“Currently, there are 1,033 volunteer reserve officers in Sarawak,” he told a press conference after the promotion ceremony for 23 officers at Kuching Police Headquarters at Simpang Tiga.

KUCHING: The problem of recruiting legal foreign workers for the plantation sector in Sarawak could be solved if the recruitment agencies in the state are given immigration licenses like their counterparts in the peninsula.
President of Private Employment Agencies Association Sarawak (PAPSS), Augustine Chin, who said this yesterday, pointed this was the problem faced by many recruiment agencies in the state when dealing with agencies in Indonesia.
As such, he reansoned this led to problems such as high placement fees even for household maids.

KUC H I N G : Ministry for Modernisation of Agriculture is committed to providing greater access and higher efficiency in service delivery and transfer of technology to rural farmers to enhance them to participate effectively in commercial agriculture.
Its Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu anak Numpang said the State Government has approved RM5 million to repair and restore 18 agriculture stations and to establish another 2 new agriculture sub-stations this year.
