KUCHING: A joint committee will be formed to implement initiatives listed under the RM250-billion Economic Stimulus or Prihatin package announced recently, says Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“The joint committee will be formed as instructed by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to ensure all the incentives listed in the package can reach the intended recipients,” he told a press conference at tHe Spring shopping mall here yesterday.

Abang Johari said the joint committee will be headed by state and federal secretaries.

He added that the economic stimulus package, which was unveiled by the Prime Minister on Friday, will complement Sarawak’s own RM1.15 billion ‘Sarawakku Sayang Special Aid Package’.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister said the state government will review the state’s own aid package in view of the Movement Control Order being extended for another two weeks.

“The ‘Sarawakku Sayang Special Aid Package’ was formulated with initial expectation that the Movement Control Order would last for two weeks. Now that the order has been extended, we will reassess it in greater detail whether the allocated fund is enough,” said Abang Johari.
