KUCHING: The Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) held a retirement dinner for outgoing general manager Datu Sarudu Hoklai on Sunday.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who officiated at the event, described Sarudu as a versatile and resourceful leader and mentor thanks to his strategic mix of knowledge and experience.

“He is also a very fast learner in new fields, especially in the timber sector which he mastered very fast, and after eight years with STIDC, he talks just like a forester. He can promote the timber industry very well to the global market,” he said.

Awang Tengah also credited Sarudu for STIDC’s prestigious achievements such as being the first statutory body to implement the Balance Score Card (BSC), a benchmark for other government agencies. In his speech, Sarudu called for continued cooperation with his successor.

“I am thankful for all the support that I had during my time as STIDC general manager. I am sure that I am leaving STIDC in good hands,” he said.

Sarudu was appointed STIDC general manager on Jan 5, 2010 after 39 years as a civil servant in roles such as special officer to the Chief Minister, administrative officer, Resident of Samarahan and Mukah divisions, Ministry of Tourism permanent secretary, and Human Resources Unit director under the Chief Minister’s Department.

Among those present at the dinner were State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani, Deputy State Secretary Datu Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Harwood Timber executive chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Bujang Mohd Nor, and STIDC acting general manager Hashim Bojet
