Sarawak Youth Assembly To Draw 5,000 Participants

KUCHING, March 7 (Bernama) -- About 5,000 youths from all over Sarawak will gather at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here for three days from March 18 for the Youth Assembly 2011, Sarawak Assistant Minister for Youth Affairs and Training Larry Sng said Monday.

He said the assembly, carrying the theme "Build the Future on the Present Success", was expected to be officially opened by Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

Eighty youth and sports organisations in the state had been invited to attend the assembly this year, he told reporters in conjunction with the launch of the assembly's logo, here.

Sng said one of the highlights of the assembly would be the presentation of awards for outstanding achievement in, among other things, sports, culture, entrepreneurship and volunteerism, and for excellent achievement by disabled youths.

Sng, who is also assistant minister for social development and urbanisation, said the activities at the assembly included conferences, workshops, exhibitions and performance by artistes.

At this year's assembly, he said, there would an exhibition by the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (Score) with dissemination of information and job openings in the development corridor.

Sng also said that the Social Development and Urbanisation Ministry extended collaboration in the organisation of the Tomorrow's Leaders Summit to showcase employment opportunities and help create youths earning a high income.

Glenreagh Sdn Bhd Managing Director Nordin Abdullah said about 1,000 people would attend the summit on the theme "Developing High Income for Youth" at the BCCK.
